Sumangalian, Commodore Chandima Silva, has been promoted to the esteemed rank of Rear Admiral in the Sri Lanka Navy
We are thrilled to announce that Sumangalian, Commodore Chandima Silva, has been promoted to the esteemed rank of Rear Admiral in the Sri Lanka Navy. His promotion is a testament to his commitment, hard work, and relentless pursuit of excellence throughout his distinguished naval career.
He is the Acting Flag Officer Commanding Naval Fleet (FOCNF) in Trincomalee, a strategic naval base in Sri Lanka.

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Sumangalian, Wing Commander VRS Vidanapathirana RSP and Bar, MSc (Def & Strat Stu), BSc (Def Stu), Pg Dip (Def Mgt), psc as the new Commanding Officer at the Junior Command and Staff College of the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) Academy in China Bay.
Before this prestigious appointment, he served as the Commanding Officer of No. 07 Helicopter Squadron at SLAF Base Hingurakgoda.

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that one of our own, Wing Commander Jayanath De Silva, has been appointed as the Commanding Officer (CO) of the Aeronautical Research and Development Wing at Sri Lanka Air Force Station Katukurunda!
This is no ordinary wing in the Air Force! They are the brilliant minds behind all R&D related to the aeronautical field within the Sri Lanka Air Force. They’re even responsible for the manufacturing of the ‘Lihiniya’ UAV aircraft, the ONLY aircraft made in Sri Lanka!
Wing Commander Jayanath’s appointment is not just a feather in his cap but a monumental achievement for the entire Sumangalian community. His leadership will undoubtedly steer the wing to new heights, adding lustre to our country’s defence capabilities and technological advancements.

Empowering Sri Sumangala College: A Landmark Partnership to implement a School Management System
We are thrilled to share a momentous development that holds great promise for our beloved alma mater. Sri Sumangala College, in collaboration with the Sri Sumangala College Old Boys’ Association (SSCOBA), is pleased to announce a strategic partnership with Bluesmart (Pvt) Ltd.
On August 26, 2023, a significant milestone was achieved as representatives from Sri Sumangala College, SSCOBA, and Bluesmart (Pvt) Ltd came together to formalize a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This MoU signifies our collective commitment to implementing the school management system within Sri Sumangala College.
The school management system represents a comprehensive solution tailored to streamline various facets of educational administration. It encompasses student management, teacher management, and education flow management, all designed to seamlessly integrate with our college’s distinct educational processes. With this implementation, we anticipate a substantial increase in management efficiency, offering clear visibility into critical data.
Under the leadership and guidance of our President, Mr. Aravinda Perera, SSCOBA takes pride in facilitating and funding this transformative project from its inception to its full deployment. As the official alumni, we wholeheartedly pledge our steadfast support and unwavering dedication to the advancement and prosperity of our beloved alma mater.

Veteran Banker, the SSCOBA President, Sumangalian Mr. Aravinda Perera appointed as the Chairman of Pan Asia Banking Corporation PLC
It is our pleasure to inform you that Sumangalian, the SSCOBA President, Veteran banker Mr. Aravinda Perera appointed as the Chairman of Pan Asia Banking Corporation PLC with effect from 11th August 2023.
Appointed to the Pan Asia Banking Corporation PLC Board in August 2017, he counts over 37 years in the banking sector and functioned as the Managing Director of Sampath Bank PLC from 1st January 2012, until his retirement in September 2016.
Presently he is the Managing Director of Royal Ceramics Lanka PLC and Chairman of Singer Finance (Lanka) PLC. He is a Director of Hayleys PLC, Hayleys Aventura (Private) Ltd., Fentons Ltd., and Hayleys Advantis Ltd. He is also a former Governing Board Member of the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka and Past President of the Association of Professional Bankers, Sri Lanka.
Mr. Perera was honoured with the ‘CEO Leadership Achievement Award 2016’ by the Asian Banker and was also the recipient of the prestigious ‘Platinum Honours – 2014’ award by the Postgraduate Institute of Management Alumni (PIMA) of Sri Jayewardenapura University. He was also honoured with the ‘Award for the Outstanding Contribution to the Banking Industry – 2015’ by the Association of Professional Bankers and was also awarded an Honorary Life Membership by the Association of Professional Bankers in October 2018.
He is a Member of the Institute of Engineers of Sri Lanka (MIESL) and a Chartered Engineer (C.Eng.). He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (UK) (FCMA) and a Fellow of the Institute of Bankers – Sri Lanka (FIB). He also holds an MBA from the Post Graduate Institute of Management.
Mr. Perera held the position of President for the Sri Sumangala College Old Boys’ Association between 1992 and 1998, and then resumed his presidential role in 2022, which he continues to hold presently.
SSCOBA takes this opportunity to congratulate Mr. Perera on his new appointment and wish him all the very best in his future endeavors.

101st Annual Get-together
The 101st Annual Get-together was held at the Blue Waters Hotel at Wadduwa on 24th June from 1900Hrs onwards. The Chief Guest at this occasion was our distinguished old boy, Rear Admiral Asanga Ranasuriya. The event was successful & well attended and became more colourful due to the presence of the wives of our old boys. Several prizes were drawn during the evening get-together. FREEZE enthralled the audience with their music and the Sway Dance Troupe delivered enchanting dance performances.

101st Annual General Meeting of SSCOBA was held successfully on 24th June 2024
101st Annual General Meeting of SSCOBA was held successfully on 24th June 2023 from 0830hrs onwards at the college auditorium with an overwhelming attendance of members. New office bearers were appointed for the year 2023/2024.
Mr. Aravinda Perera, a reputed corporate leader in the country has been once again appointed as the President to steer the association this year as well. Mr. Dhanuka Kottahachchi and Mr. Dinesh Ketipearachchi were appointed as Joint Secretaries and Mr. Prabhath Tharaka Suranga was appointed as the Treasurer.
The meeting was attended by the Principal, representatives from other affiliations of OBA including the President of Junior OBA Mr. Malith De Silva, the Treasurer of Colombo Branch Mr. Charitha Gunathilake, and the President of the Past Cricketers’ Association Mr. Rohan Perera.
A large number of distinguished old boys of various disciplines took part in the event and expressed their views constructively.
The vote of thanks was given by the Jt. Secretary, Mr. Dhanuka Kottahachchi.
