100th Annual General Meeting of SSCOBA was held successfully on 25th June 2022 from 0830hrs onwards at the college auditorium with an overwhelming attendance of members despite the setbacks of the country. New office bearers were appointed for the year 2022/2023.

Mr. Aravinda Perera, a reputed corporate leader in the country has been once again appointed as the President to steer the association in this crucial year. He held the same position from 1994 to 2000. Mr. Nimesha Nawalage & Mr. Dhanuka Kottahachchi were appointed as Joint Secretaries and Mr. Dinesh Ketipearachchi was re-appointed as the Treasurer.

The meeting was attended by the Principal, representatives from other affiliations of OBA including the President of Junior OBA Mr. Geeth Sanjaya, the Vice President of Colombo Branch Mr. Janalal Rodrigo, and the President of Past Cricketers’ Association Mr. Saman Kumara.

A large number of distinguished old boys of various disciplines took part in the event and expressed their views constructively.

The vote of thanks was given by the Jt. Secretary, Mr. Nimesha Nawalage.

Annual Get Together – 2022 of Sri Sumangala College Old Boys’ Association will be held on 25th June 2022 at Jie Jie Beach by Jetwing – Panadura from 7 pm onwards to the tune of INSIGHT.

Three great sons of our Alma Mater – Mr. Anurath Abeyratne (Chairman & Managing Director of Anunine Holdings Pvt Ltd, Korean SPA Packaging Pvt Ltd, Eagle Power (Pvt) Ltd, KSPA Embilipitiya Paper Mills (Pvt) Ltd, Ethimale Plantation (Pvt) Ltd and ATIRE (Pvt) Ltd), Mr. Rohantha De Fonseka (Chairman of C D De Fonseka & Sons Pvt Ltd and Senior Director of Biomed Scientific (Pvt) Ltd) and Mr. Tissa Illeperuma (Founder/Chairman of Naturub Group of Companies) will grace the night as special guests.

Mr. Wilson Kahandagamage, Mr. Vijith Salgado, Mr. Sanath De Silva (three past presidents of SSCOBA) and Mr. Sarath Alwis (former joint secretary of SSCOBA) will be felicitated for their yeoman service towards the success of SSCOBA.

Sri Sumangala College Old Boys’ Association (SSCOBA), an integral part of the college is at the verge of celebrating its 100th anniversary on 28th October 2022. In lieu of this historical moment, SSCOBA has planned a series of activities for the betterment of both the present day students of our Alma Mater and old boys.

One such activity is to install a solar power system at the college premises in order to save the monthly electricity bill of the college, whilst fulfilling a social responsibility of promoting green energy. This is going to be the first phase of the project and the SSCOBA anticipates to expand the capacity in the next stage.

The official agreement of the “සුමඟුල් රිවි බල” Solar Power Project was handed over to the Principal – Mr. Niluka Weerasinghe by the President of SSCOBA – Mr. Mahesh Fonseka on 05th May 2022 at the college. Treasurer of SSCOBA – Mr. Dinesh Ketapearachchi and Project Chairman/Vice President – Mr. Chamath Dias also presented at this occasion.

SSCOBA takes this opportunity to extend its heartiest gratitude to all donors who made this project a success.
