A distinguished old boy of Sri Sumangala College, Panandura, Engineer Tilak De Silva has been appointed as the Chairman – Engineering Council of Sri Lanka.
The Engineering Council of Sri Lanka is Sri Lanka’s regulatory authority for registration of engineering practitioners. It was formed under the Engineering Council Act No 4 of 2017.

Distinguished Old Sumangalian Late “Keerthi Sri Perera” Memorial Challenge Quiz Day – CRYPTICS ’19
Old Boys’ Association of Sri Sumangala College contributed to the Distinguished Old Sumangalian late “Keerthi Sri Perera” Memorial Challenge Annual Quiz Day – CRYPTICS ’19 held at the college auditorium.
15+ schools participated in the annual quiz day and Mahanama College, Colombo won the late “Keerthi Sri Perera” Memorial Challenge 2019.

Old Sumangalian, Veteran journalist Merryl Perera passed away
Former Editor of the Divaina newspaper and a former member of the Editors Guild of Sri Lanka (TEGOSL) Merryl Perera passed away at the age of 73 today.
Issuing a condolence message on the passing away of veteran Journalist Perera, the TEGOSL conveyed its heartfelt condolences and sympathies.
Merryl Perera, who began his career in journalism in 1965 from the Lake House, had then served at the Dawasa Newspaper before joining the Upali Group in the capacity of the Chief Sub Editor of the Divaina Newspaper in 1981.
Afterwards, the late Mr Perera had functioned in such posts as the deputy editor and associate editor before assuming the portfolio of chief editor of Divaina.
He had also worked as the chief editor of the Nawallva Newspaper as well for a short period.
When he was functioning in the capacity of the chief sub-editor of the Divaina, he earned a name for himself for attractive, colourful headlines to news items of the said newspaper.
During the course of his long career in journalism, he had also mentored a sizeable number of journalists to the field which further underscored his reputation for scoring new talent in his chosen field.
Perera had also authored books such as Ayubowan Armour Weediya, Divaine Visiwasak, Paniwalalu, Athirasa and Adaraniya Taththa.
His death will be an irreparable loss to the field of print media of the country. May he attain the supreme bliss of Nibbana, Secretary to the TEGOSL Sisira Paranatantrie said in the statement.

Mr. Mahesh Fonseka unanimously elected as the President of SSCOBA for the year 2019/2020
The 97th AGM of the SSCOBA was held at the College Auditorium on 29th June 2019 from 08.30AM onwards. Mr. Mahesh Fonseka was elected unanimously as the President for the year 2019/2020. Mahesh was the past Joint Secretary of SSCOBA, past Treasurer of SSCOBA, past Secretary of Junior OBA, past Treasurer of Junior OBA and was past Vice President of Junior OBA.
Attorney at Law, past Joint Secretary, past Vice President of SSCOBA, and Past Secretary and past Vice President of Junior OBA, Mr. Amila Nawalage and past Vice President of SSCOBA, Mr. Dinesh Indika Katipearachchi elected as Joint Secretaries.
Banker, and past President of Junior OBA, Mr. Dhanuka Kottahachchi elected as the Treasurer.
97th Annual Get Together will be held on 27th July, 2019 at the Citrus Waskaduwa.
